ABOUT URBAN WATER WORKS History Urban Water Works began in
March 1999 as a diverse group of people inspired by Betsy Damon's work on the
Living Water Garden in Chengdu, China, the world’s first urban ecological
park to focus on the art, education and science of water. UWW spun off of the
international efforts of Keepers of the Waters to focus on the Portland
region, and officially obtained 501(c) 3 non-profit status in 2002. Since
1999, Urban Water Works has successfully led workshops, schoolyard garden
projects and other efforts to restore living water in the urban landscapes of
Portland, Oregon. Vision We envision a world where water
is valued as a unifying biological and cultural resource that connects all
living beings and transcends political and economic interests. Goals • Foster artistic, scientific
and empowering solutions to the pollution and degradation of water resources.
• Create a citywide network of
community-based projects that make water visible and integrated into our
lives and neighborhoods. • Foster a diversity of
partnerships with local communities and encourage collaboration across
artistic and scientific disciplines. |
